Property Highlight

We’re excited to welcome Village on 9 Mile Creek to Compass Management Group!

This community recently joined Compass, and we’re thrilled to have them on board. We look forward to supporting their continued success and helping enhance their community experience.

Compass Recognized in Advocacy Leadership

Our Chief Operating Officer, Alyson Astleford, was recently honored as one of many women advocating for the HOA industry on a daily basis.

Her leadership, dedication, and work in shaping public policy continue to positively impact community associations across the industry.

CAI Legislative Updates

The CAI-MN Legislative Action Committee (LAC) continues to monitor activity at the Capitol and advocate for community associations.

Key Bill: S.F. 1750

S.F. 1750 has advanced to the House Judiciary Committee. While CAI-MN LAC opposes the bill in its current form, ongoing discussions have led to several improvements, including:

  • Removal of the $100 fine cap

  • No limits on charging for governing document questions

  • A 30-day limit to request a hearing

  • Removal of dispute resolution requirements

  • Allowing reasonable speaking limits at meetings

  • Removal of vendor restrictions and “cure” provisions

Despite this progress, concerns remain. Several provisions—while intended to promote fairness and transparency—would significantly increase costs for homeowners.

These new administrative, legal, and operational burdens would likely require associations to raise dues or fees, financially impacting all homeowners within those communities. At this time, CAI-MN continues to oppose the bill in its current form.

Other Bills to Watch

Opposed:

  • S.F. 1564 (flag display)

  • S.F. 4300 (HOA registration)

  • H.F. 3362 (political access to buildings)

Monitoring:

  • H.F. 2185 (flag rights)

  • H.F. 2614 (cities & HOAs)

  • H.F. 2687 (corporate homeownership)

  • H.F. 4220 (reserve requirements)

A Message from the Owners

Laws that affect homeowner associations are always evolving, and staying informed can feel overwhelming. That’s where Compass Management Group comes in.

Our team closely monitors new legislation so the boards and communities we serve don’t have to navigate these changes alone. We review proposed laws, collaborate with legal professionals, and provide clear guidance to help boards understand what updates mean for their communities.

We’re also fortunate to have Alyson Astleford on our team, who serves on both national Government & Public Affairs and state Legislative Action Committees through CAI. Through this work, she helps review and advocate for legislation impacting community associations while keeping our team informed on upcoming changes.

For your community, this means:

  • Timely updates

  • Helpful resources

  • Practical recommendations

Every HOA is unique. When legislative updates arise, we work closely with each board to evaluate how those changes may impact operations and planning—and help create manageable solutions when needed.

While legislation may change, our commitment to supporting strong, well-run communities remains constant.
